Arc-I-Texture Workshop
Want to create a small (15 x 15) unique quilt of your very own and learn something about composition, textures, and circular quilting? Then this is the class for you! This is a chance to use some of those fancy and unusual fabrics that you’ve been attracted to, but didn’t know how to use. We will tame them by fusing, and learn to mix them with other textured looking fabrics. You can even use textured looking cottons. And you won’t need much of any one fabric---even scraps will do! And best of all, most people finish the project during class, except for the binding.
You’ll learn a bit about composition, and how to balance it with both color and size. You’ll learn about fusing and how to finish your quilts with facings as opposed to bindings. And Carol will also teach you how to quilt and couch those “perfect” circles that have almost become a trademark on her quilts. You’ll be thrilled with the resulting small quilt which you can do in many different color schemes, and hang in your own home or give as a gift. Check her website (www.caroltaylorquilts.com) and look under Gallery for the 57 Arc-i-Texture quilts she has made. (see samples).

Sensuous Lines Workshop
Do you love the look of those really skinny lines and curves, but don’t know how to make them? Now is your chance to learn. Carol shares the secrets of piecing them, making them really skinny, and you can make those practice blocks into a lovely wall quilt (41 x 36) full of those “sensuous lines and curves”!
We will start with piecing simple lines that you cut improvisationally on small pieces of fabric that will turn out to be 7 ½” blocks. The middle section of “sensuous lines and curves” is made by couching yarn, but gives the illusion that it is also pieced. All of this is done with no pinning & a minimal amount of measuring to free you up & allow you to think outside of the box. You’ll also learn how to finish your quilts with facings instead of bindings. You’ll be thrilled with the resulting small quilt, which you can do in any 4-5 basic colors as in the samples below. (41 x 36). Check Carol’s website (www.caroltaylorquilts.com) to see many quilts Carol has made using these same techniques in her Linear Series, and then come make your very own version.

Improvisational Piecing Workshop
Carol will teach 15-20 different improvisational piecing techniques and really free ways of creating designs. (8-10 techniques on Monday & 8-10 different techniques on Tuesday.) Learn to play with color, value, and design without anxiety. We’ll make strip sets, circles, offbeat squares, skinny lines, couching & even add a little fusing. You will be encouraged to experiment with color, value, and design. All construction methods are fast and easy! Tired of that precise cutting and those exacting patterns? Then this is the workshop to free you up, expand your creativity, and allow you to just have fun with some spontaneous sewing.
Have you always admired those pieced circles in Carol’s Gong Series or Nuts & Bolts Series? You can piece them with ease and without even pinning. Create your own very own unique quilt using these techniques to piece circles, and learn to do Carol’s trademark circular quilting to complete the look.
Or do you love the look of those really skinny lines and curves in her Linear Series, but don’t know how to create them? Carol shares the secrets of piecing them, and you can make those practice blocks into your own wall quilt full of those “sensuous lines and curves”! We’ll even use couching to create more sensuous lines in your quilt. You’ll also learn how to finish your quilts with facings instead of bindings.
And on day 3, in order to finish your quilts, Carol will also give you a special session on Free Motion quilting including demos and drawings of 12 great quilting designs we will practice in class, using various threads appropriate to the designs.
All of these techniques are done with a minimal amount of measuring to free you up and allow you to think outside of the box. Use these basics to gain the confidence to work more freely, improvise, and express your individuality in your quilts.
Feb 1, 2 & 3, 2010 (Mon-Wed) 9:00-4:00
(Piecing the first two days, Free Motion part on Wed.)

Lenore Crawford
|
|
| Impressionistic Fabric Art
In this workshop the designing of a small fused project will
begin. We will work from one of three of Lenore’s patterns:
Yellow Poppies, Red Poppies or Yellow Cone Flower since
these are the least complex patterns for beginners. It will
be outlined on freezer paper and then transferred to a background
fabric on which the design will be fused. No sewing
will be done during the workshop, only the designing and
fusing. Lenore will demonstrate how to add fabric painting to
your design to add detail and depth; students will do painting
on their own designs in the two day workshops.

| Right Pattern Wrong Fabric
If you have not been happy with the finished garments you make then this is going to be the most important class you will ever take! The biggest sewing mistake is not on your sewing skills but in picking the wrong fabric for the pattern. Every fabric will not do everything. This is a “hand holding” lecture class with lots of solid information you need to know before selecting fabric for a pattern
design. There is a lot that the pattern instructions & sewing books neglected to tell you. You will see lots of garment samples to help you see & understand how fabric really works in a design. After this class you are going to love the clothes you make because you will know how to make good choices.

| One Block Wonder
The hexagons created from your fabric ultimately form the foundation of your quilt and all the blocks are completed, you begin to design the final quilt on a design wall. The primary fabric does the bulk of the work, defining your color palette. The fun is to then paint with this palette, to move the shapes around the design wall. In this 6-hour class, enough kaleidoscopes are created so that the student can practice these theories and watch what happens as they move the kaleidoscopes around the design wall. Border techniques are also taught.

| Cubes, Hollow or Otherwise
Cubes are 3-dimensional. They have a front and sides and a back. Or do they? When they are on a quilt, you only imagine that they have a back, you only imagine that they have sides. Playing with the imagination is what makes them look hollow, or open on one side, or sliced almost in half. It is still a flat piece of fabric and yet it has so much dimension. People will think you worked for days to make just one cube, but there is a secret, an easy way to do them, and no ‘Y’ seams.
